Conversion of a foreign driving license in Munich

In most cases, only one theoretical and one practical Examination are necessary.
However, this depends on the country where you have your driving license. However, it is still recommended that you prepare for the practical test by taking practical lessons.

The following documents are required
  • passport or identity card
  • Valid national driving license
  • Translation of your national driving license see Lingoking
  • Confirmation from the residents' registration office about the first registration in Germany
  • First aid course
  • vision test
  • approximately 45 euros processing fee at the driver's license office

The practical exam is in German, therefore basic knowledge of German is important.

  • with a permissible total weight (gVW) of up to 3500 kg
  • with trailer GVW maximum 750 kg or
  • with trailer over 750 kg GVW, provided that the GVW of towing vehicle and trailer is a maximum of 3500 kg
  • minimum age 18 years
